While it might be a useful feature to allow the commit message to be edited directly in gerrit, it is rather annoying that reviewers are not notified when this happens. In particular, turnaround times can increase dramatically if neither the patch author nor the reviewer are aware of the bug and both assume the other person is lagging, which makes this problem quite serious.
