"A valid login session was not found" when trying to access a user profile while not logged in

I get the following while trying to access a user's profile while not logged into the forums:

{"code":"not-authorised","message":"A valid login session was not found. Please log in and try again.","params":{}}

I would have expected a nicely styled page telling me that I need to be logged in to view user profiles.
