Cross platform API for biometric authentication

Biometric authentication is meanwhile a popular feature which is not only used on the platform level to unlock an access to a desktop or a home screen. it is also used in applications to unlock an access to some selected data or features which are seen as relevant to security.

The subject of this task is to access the feasibility and usefullness of cross-platform abstraction APIs for biometric authentication. For example, it is not clear of main desktop and smartphone platforms allow abstraction of these APIs at all. Another example would be the question if such an cross-platform API would make, as it might be only just one call or event from the platform, and it parameters of this call or event might be hard to anstract
