Git: Leftover index.lock

    Description

      I have no reproducible scenario, but it appears as if the new feature regarding reflecting the file status can create index.lock files.

      Every 10s ( ? ) it seems an index.lock is created (for the base repository and its submodules) for a split of a second to get the file states.

      I'm not 100% sure that it only may happen for a crashing QC that such an index.lock is not removed again, can you please double check?
